Marsha and I have another Trip to Salt Lake City and the Outdoor Retailer Expo under our belt. Number four for both of us, amazing! We are always looking forward to the trip, driving the 13 hours from Everett to Salt Lake City can be fun, but are always happy when we get home save and sound.
The show was very interesting for us this year for many reasons. Early this year the decision was made to start promoting the paddle sports gear exclusively under the brand SEA-LECT Designs. Thus we needed a new booth design, new packaging, new part numbers, inventory locations, catalog, price list, etc.. Albert Loo our Art Director kicked in the Overdrive and had the last catalog printed just ours before we left.
At the show, Marsha and I started smiling right away. Finally for the 1st time our booth location was great! Mainfloor, with two big isles merging (close to the bathroom), you get the picture.
Due to the recession and some controversy between some paddle sports manufacturers and the show organizer, the number of paddle sports exhibitors was way down. So was the number of overall attendees. Also, the show was one month earlier this year, which might have contributed to the low attendance.
Overall, we made good contacts during the four days, and staying at the Econo Lodge helped keeping our expenses down. Thank you all of you who stopped by at our booth. We appreciate your interest in our kayak gear and are eager to support your business as much as we can.
We might have two shows next year, so it is probably too early to say if we will be back in Salt Lake City next year.
